What is prostate cancer?
Prostate Cancer is caused when some cells in the prostate gland start to grow out of control. The Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test can help diagnose prostate cancer. It is not a perfect test. There are a proportion of ‘false positives’ when it will indicate cancers that may not go on to cause harm, and a smaller proportion of ‘false negatives’ when it misses cancers. Both are mitigated by having regular PSA tests.

Why should you get a Prostate cancer test?
Prostate cancer often develops without noticeable symptoms in its early stages. Early detection can save lives by identifying problems before they become more serious. If you're eligible, a quick test could provide reassurance and help protect your future health.
What do we do?
When you arrive to the event, after signing in you will wait to be called up. Once you are called up, one of our phlebotomists will draw blood from one of your arms & it will be sent off to the lab for testing. You will receive your results within 10 days after the event. As we work on a traffic light system, your results will show as one of the following:
GREEN: your PSA level is not raised above the normal levels for your age group. No immediate action is needed but the PSA test does not always pick up the presence of prostate cancer and early prostate cancer often has no symptoms.
AMBER: Discuss your PSA result with your GP. Remember to take your PSA blood result with you.
RED: this warrants URGENT action. Do not assume you have cancer because there may be other reasons why your PSA levels are raised. You must seek prompt medical advice from your GP. Remember to take your PSA blood result with you.
